As with any adventure, there’s always some uncertainty before taking the plunge. We’ve answered our most frequently asked questions below to hopefully relieve some of the stress before you book! Feel free to reach out with additional questions!
PICK UP /
WHERE DO I PICK UP MY RENTAL?
While our administrative offices are downtown, please note our vehicles are parked at a different location. Pick up and drop off location: 3705 Navajo St, Denver, CO 80211. Our lot is across the street from Pinwheel Coffee.
From Denver Airport: 30-45 minute Uber/Lyft drive
From Union Station: 5-10 minute Uber/Lyft drive or 12 minute bus ride (line 19)
If you require special assistance, please contact us in advance. We understand that many of our guests are not locals, and are always happy to answer any questions and/or make arrangements to make your trip easier.
DO YOU OFFER AIRPORT PICK UP?
Yes! We offer roundtrip pick-up/drop-off at Denver International Airport for $160. You can add this to your reservation at check out. We ask that you please share your flight details and arrival time when you reserve, so we can schedule your pick up and drop off.
WHAT TIME CAN I PICK UP MY RENTAL?
We operate like a hotel… on wheels! Check-ins are in the afternoon and check-outs are in the morning. Our designated pick-up times are 2pm-6pm, and our drop-off times are 8am-12pm. If you require early pick-up or late drop-off, please add this to your reservation and let us know what time you plan to pick up or drop off the vehicle. There is a $75 fee for any early pick-ups or late drop-offs.
How many people can travel in the camper with me?
2-Door Jeep Camper: Seats and sleeps 2 (roof top tent).
4-Door Jeep Camper: Seats 5, sleeps up to 5 (2 in roof top tent, 2-3 in annex tent if added).
Jeep Rubicon Camper: Seats 5, sleeps up to 5 (2 in roof top tent, 2-3 in annex tent if added).
Jeep Gladiator Camper: Seats 5, sleeps up to 5 (2-3 adults in roof top tent, 2 in annex tent if added).
Campervan: Seats 2 and sleeps 2 (platform queen size bed)
Seating is according to how many seat belts are available in each vehicle. You can always add the annex tent or bring along our ground tent to sleep more people. Extra camping gear is available for rent to accommodate the number of people in your party.
HOW BIG ARE THE TENTS?
Our 2-Door & 4-Door Jeep Campers are equipped with RoofNest tents and sleeps 2 adults comfortably. If you are traveling with a larger group, you can add an awning tent and cots for additional sleeping space.
Our Jeep Gladiator is equipped with an iKamper Skycamp tent and sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids comfortably. Don’t believe us? Check it out for yourself!
ARE TENTS EASY TO SET UP?
Absolutely! Our roof-top-tents take <2 minutes to set-up. Check out how easy it is in this short video. There are stainless steel gas struts that allow the tent to pop up as soon as you unbuckle it. During pick-up, we provide an orientation to your vehicle and gear. One of our team members will show you how to set up the tent and answer any questions at orientation.
WHAT GEAR COMES WITH MY RENTAL?
Aside from the roof-top-tent, awning and kitchen/storage system, Overland Discovery includes the following gear free of charge with every rental:
Camp chairs & table
Pillows & blankets
Stove & propane
Yeti cooler, cookware, spices
French press coffee kit
Sponge & biodegradable soap
We have sleeping bags, bike racks, and other Extras available for rent.
WHERE CAN I CAMP?
There are two major options for camping with our vehicles and roof-top-tents: Designated Sites or Dispersed Camping.
Designated Camping is typically done in established campgrounds on public land (the most common) or private land. Some have running water and bathrooms, others may not. Each site has its own regulations and characteristics, so we recommend doing some research in advance regarding fees, reservations, amenities, etc. Always read the postings at each site entrance for up-to-date information. Bring enough cash to pay the fee, which is usually deposited into an envelope and placed inside a fee box. Beautiful sites are abundant in Colorado, so check out Allstays.com or Recreation.gov for an extensive list of campgrounds and camping information.
Dispersed Camping: The beauty of overlanding is that you can camp wherever your vehicle can safely go! As long as you are on public land (maintained by the state, National Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, or the National Park Service), you can find many dispersed sites to enjoy. Many times these sites are located along forest roads and primitive roads, and are often marked by a fire ring and a cleared space. We recommend using pre-existing sites in order to minimize your impact on the local environment. Always camp at least 100 ft away from water sources (rivers, streams, and lakes) and within 150 feet of the road. These operate on a first-come, first-serve basis, so if the site is empty you can park and set up camp. Heed fire restrictions and local regulations. There's no need to worry about the ground being wet, rocky, or cold - simply find a level spot, engage the parking brake, pop up the tent and you're ready to go! DRIVING & INSURANCE
HOW MANY MILES ARE INCLUDED?
150 miles per day. Any mileage overages will be charged at $0.40 per mile. If you expect to travel longer distances, you can purchase a discounted mileage package beforehand, which includes an additional 100 miles/day for $30 per day.
ARE THERE ANY TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS?
Our minimum rental period is 2 nights. Please note, shorter reservations can be submitted, but they’ll be charged at the minimum 2-night duration rate.
Drivers must be over the age of 21, and drivers using our insurance must be over the age of 25. All drivers must pass a background/license check before being verified. You may add up to 2 drivers to your rental. Only verified drivers may drive the vehicle. You are free to travel anywhere in the US as long as you adhere to our Terms & Conditions.
DO YOU OFFER INSURANCE*?
Yes! We’ve partnered with Wheelbase and Liberty Mutual to offer our renters 3 different levels of protection that include roadside coverage and $1M SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance)coverage. Types of protection: Basic, Essential, and Peace of Mind. Financial coverage included per tier:
BASIC: Up to $75k in auto physical damage, minimum financial responsibility liability insurance, windshield repair
ESSENTIAL: Up to $150k in auto physical damage, roadside assistance, minimum financial responsibility liability insurance, windshield repair
PEACE OF MIND: Up to $250k in auto physical damage, roadside assistance, $1M liability insurance, windshield repair
*Please note your security deposit will be used towards the deductible in the event of an accident.
I HAVE MY OWN INSURANCE, CAN I OPT OUT OF THE ONE PROVIDED?
Yes, you may opt out of our insurance as long as your insurance covers the rental. We require an insurance binder and additional paperwork for renters who choose to use their own insurance.
DO YOU OFFER ROAD-SIDE ASSISTANCE?
Yes! We offer 24/7 technical and emergency roadside assistance. Our Essential and Peace of Mind insurance packages include it, but if you would like to add it to your Basic plan, it can be added for $15 per day. Along with this added service, we’ll personally respond as quickly as possible in the event of an incident so that we can get you back to enjoying your trip!
DO YOU OFFER ONE-WAY RENTALS?
Short answer, yes. Although we do not have this option fully developed to handle a large volume, we do accept one-way rentals on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us if you’re interested in a one-way rental. We will do our best to accommodate your request!
CAN I SMOKE IN THE VEHICLE?
No smoking allowed in any of our vehicles or tents. No exceptions! We understand some folks might travel to Colorado for other “recreational” activities, and while we’re all for it, please do not use our vehicles or tents for this. Colorado is beautiful, please keep all smoking outdoors and within the restrictions of the law. You will be charged a significant fee if we find any evidence of smoking (min. of $300).
ARE PETS ALLOWED?
Pets are not allowed in our vehicles or tents, except in the case of verified service animals. This is to protect our guests with animal allergies. If you will be traveling with a service animal, please let us know in advance as there is a cleaning fee associated. If we find that a guest has brought along a pet without our authorization, or the car is returned significantly dirtier than when it was picked up, the guest will be subject to additional fees.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE RETURNING THE VEHICLE?
We require that each vehicle be returned with a full tank of gas and in a clean and presentable state (without excessive mud, dirt, dust, etc). A fee will be charged if the vehicle is returned with less than a full tank of gas and/or if the vehicle requires substantial cleaning. Fees may vary depending on the amount of labor required to return the vehicle to our rental standards. If covered in thick mud/dirt, we recommend simply washing the vehicle down in a car wash bay before returning it.
CAN I DRIVE OFF-ROAD?
While we encourage you to go off the beaten path, please note that all off-road areas and closed roads are off limits for travel in our vehicles. You are allowed to drive on public dirt roads (forest or county roads) at your leisure. You are not allowed to go “off-roading” (aka: rock crawling, dune driving, etc). Please do not leave state-maintained dirt/country roads or drive on trails with moderate to expert difficulty. Insurance will not cover this type of activity. If you travel in a restricted area, you will be liable for all damages to the vehicle, tires, and windshield, as well as towing charges and any additional expenses for a breakdown or accident.

PAYMENT & PRICING
WHEN DO I PAY FOR THE TRIP?
Reservation deposit (25%) is due when you book online. The remainder is due 14 days before your trip begins, and will automatically be charged to the card we have on file. If you need to change your payment method or card, please let us know prior to the 14 day cut-off so we can update our records.
WHAT ABOUT THE SECURITY DEPOSIT?
We require a security deposit of $1,000 to cover any potential damage to the vehicle and/or equipment. The security deposit is due 2 days before pick-up and will be refunded upon safe return of the vehicle. Please note it may take up to 3-5 business days to process the refund.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY TRIP?
Cancellation Policy: Your reservation deposit (25% of full trip cost) is non-refundable. If the booking is canceled more than 7 days before your trip start date, you will be refunded 75% of the full rental amount (minus fees). If canceled less than 7 days before your trip start date, you will be refunded 50% of the full rental amount (minus fees). We understand that emergencies happen and plans change - if you need to cancel your current trip but know you will be back within 6 months, please let us know. We may be able to reschedule your trip for a later date to avoid losing your deposit.
DO YOU OFFER GIFT CARDS?
Yes! We love it when our customers want to share the gift of adventure with their friends or family! You can now purchase gift cards on our online store. Certain times of the year (holidays, low season, etc), we offer discounted pricing for gift cards and can even customize the gift card to include the exact dollar amount and message you’d like to include.
